It’s Tax Time in Brazil
Tax season for individuals in Brazil is just around the corner. The Federal Revenue Service (Receita Federal) recently announced that the income tax filing period will begin tomorrow. If you were a tax resident in Brazil on December 31, 2022, and meet at least one of the eligibility requirements, you’ll need to file your tax return declaration by May 31, 2023.
This year, the government is hoping for a smoother process by using pre-set declarations from day one of the filing period. However, this change has caused a delay in the standard start date. This is because the Receita Federal needed extra time to populate the pre-set declarations with information received from banks, brokers, and companies through Withholding Income Tax Return declarations.
If you earned more than BRL$1,903.98 per month last year, you’ll be required to file a tax return declaration. The higher exemption limits we mentioned HERE will only apply to tax season 2024.
As we explained before, it’s possible to Get Money Back in Brazil. But if you’re looking to receive a refund quickly, you’ll want to file your taxes as soon as possible. Seniors, people with disabilities, and teachers get priority, but from there the system follows the filing order.
Taxes in Brazil are tricky business, particular for foreigners who’ll pay taxes in Brazil on their worldwide income. Do it right this year and get help from an experienced international tax advisor who can walk you through the process. We promise - you’ll be glad you did.
