Get Your Investor Visa

In a past article, we wrote about the Brazilian visa for investments in real estate. You can check it out here. Now, it’s time to look at yet another type of investment visa. This one’s for foreign investments in Brazilian companies.

The Brazilian investor visa is similar to the EB-5 visa in the US. If you invest enough money in a local business and have a well designed 3-year business plan, you’ll get a visa to live in Brazil. It’s that simple. Well, almost that simple. There are still a lot of documents that are required and a process that must be carefully followed.

The required investment in the Brazilian company is BRL$500,000 (approximately US$95,283). While that might not seem like a lot compared to an EB-5, it’s actually a significant amount if you consider the previous threshold. Before the law changed in 2017, all that was needed was a BRL$150,000 investment. That’s less than US$30,000 today.

Investments in the sciences and technology can still get you an investor visa for BRL$150,000. You’ll just have to meet a few other requirements. Careful planning is key to making sure you qualify.

One important thing to remember is that once you get your visa, you’ll immediately become a tax resident. As we’ve pointed out before, this means you’ll owe taxes in Brazil on your worldwide income. Yes, we said worldwide income. So think long and hard before you take the plunge.
