A New Year Means New Trade Board and Notary Fees

Brazilian trade boards and notary offices charge fees for their services. Whether you’re filing a corporate record or registering a real estate transaction, these services come at a cost. Fees vary depending on the state and the type of service provided. To help individuals and businesses plan, the official fee schedules are updated annually and published online.

Two regions to consider are São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro as they’re often focal points for foreign investors. Below are examples of their fees for 2025.

For registering the articles of organization of a Brazilian limited liability company (limitada) with the Board of Trade of the State of São Paulo (JUCESP), the fee is BRL$263.58 (approximately US$44). The same fee applies to filing corporate resolutions. However, small businesses get a discount - BRL$211.01 (approximately US$35).

The Board of Trade of the State of Rio de Janeiro (JUCERJA) provides an online calculator to estimate fees. For the same corporate documents mentioned above, the cost is BRL$600 (approximately US$100), and small businesses don’t pay less.

For the purchase and sale of property, the cost of the public deed (escritura) generally depends on the transaction value. For a property worth BRL$450,000.00, the fee in São Paulo is BRL$5,163.06 (approximately US$870). In Rio, it’s BRL$2,403.86 (approximately US$400).

By consulting the updated fee schedules for the trade boards and notary offices, you can better anticipate expenses and ensure smooth transactions throughout the year.
